“Unsightly veins on the face are not only embarrassing for many clients but can make the skin appear more aged as well. This is especially true for men who don’t have the benefit of covering their veins with make-up. And because facial veins vary in size, I use a combination of Laser and IPL to deliver the most effective results” SH
The Three C’s of Facial Veins – Condition, Cause, Clinical Solution
Commonly seen in Anglo Saxon skin types, skin is thinner and finer meaning veins have a more transparent appearance on the skins surface. As the nose and cheeks are a highly vascular area, if left untreated, veins will continue to dilate and become more noticeable.
The appearance of veins on the face is often caused by continual skin flushing, causing the vessel walls to dilate. This can be due to a number of factors including hormones, genetics, smoking and weather extremities, with any amount of previous sun damage potentially exacerbating the problem.
THE CLINICAL SOLUTION
Facial veins can be both superficial (epidermal layer) and deeper (dermal layer) therefore different treatment modalities are needed to achieve the most effective result.

Treatment name: Laser & IPL
In understanding the specific adjustments that need to be made to target certain depths of facial veins, a combination of Nd Yag Laser, LimeLight and AcuTip is used to treat small facial veins quickly, without bruising or complication, whilst achieving excellent results.
“The heat from the Laser and IPL coagulates the blood, destroying the vessel and making the veins disappear. Some results are instant, while other veins will disappear over a period of time” SH
Home Maintenance for Facial Veins
“When it comes to facial veins, correct use of home skincare and lifestyle tips may prevent further damage from occurring” SH
Sarah’s top tips for preventing facial veins
Don’t have hot showers
This leads to flushing of the vessels and permanent dilation.
Don’t rub or blow your nose hard
Being a highly vascularised area this can easily lead to vessel dilation.
Choose the right skincare routine
A gentle cleanser and skincare containing vitamin A and C to support collagen and strength of the skin is crucial; as is use of sunscreen to prevent further damage.
Daily use of a broad-spectrum Sunscreen can aid in the prevention of sun spots and premature ageing.
1. Gentle Cleanser
Choose a cleanser that acts to strengthen the surface of the skin with potent anti-inflammatory ingredients.
2. Vitamin B Complex
A multi-vitamin B peptide complex works at the cellular level to soothe and protect skin.
3. Vitamin A Serum
One of the most effective homecare solutions for redness, sensitivity and rosacea is a vitamin A serum – helping to diminish visible irritation and signs of damage.
Sensitive skin must be carefully protected from UV radiation. Physical sunscreens with a base of zinc oxide and titanium dioxide are less likely to cause irritation.
